Saint Nicholas Cathedral
Built in 1913, St. Nicholas Cathedral is one of the oldest and largest cathedrals built by Ukrainian immigrants in North America. Large scale renovations began in the mid 1970s, with the entire interior prepared with a constructed scaffold. Only the original stained glass was determined to be salvageable and was therefore preserved and restored.

Because a previous firm's solution was eventually deemed a poor fit for the Cathedral, Ecclesiastical Art & Design, Ltd. was commissioned after the scaffolding was already in place. Unable to see the interior in its entirety, or even at all, our studio had to design all original artwork without the benefit of knowing the space. Our team worked for two years to complete the artwork in the interior, which included thousands of hand-painted and gilded stars, iconography, mosaic, ornamentation, and an original iconostasis.
